High-speed brake discs are not a specific type of brake disc design per se; rather, they refer to brake disc assemblies that are optimized for high-speed driving and frequent emergency braking scenarios, featuring exceptional resistance to thermal fade. Such discs typically build upon ventilated discs, perforated ventilated discs, or split dual-rotor brake discs, with further enhancements achieved through optimized material selection and surface treatments. Below are their key features, types, and matching logic:
Core Performance Requirements for High-Speed Brake Disks
Under high-speed operating conditions, the kinetic energy converted into heat during a single emergency brake is extremely high. Moreover, continuous high-speed braking—such as emergency evasive maneuvers or overtaking on mountain roads—can cause brake disc temperatures to rapidly exceed 500°C. Therefore, high-speed brake discs must meet three core requirements:
Ultimate cooling efficiency: Rapidly dissipates heat, preventing thermal degradation (a sudden drop in the coefficient of friction) and disc deformation.
High-temperature friction stability: The coefficient of friction fluctuates little at high temperatures, and braking force does not diminish.
Structural fatigue resistance: Resistant to repeated high-temperature and low-temperature cycles, with minimal risk of cracking or warping.
